Options to Pick a Master Lock

Your options when faced with the task of how to pick a Master Lock include:

Breaking the lock

Calling a locksmith

Cracking the code combination

Using a shim

Of these options, you need to understand that the only the last two options will leave you with a usable Master Lock after all is said and done. This article will show you how to pick a Master Lock and still leave your lock usable and intact afterwards.

One thing to keep in mind when learning how to pick a Master Lock is that there are over 64,000 possible code combinations on a standard 40 digit Master Lock. Obviously, that is a lot of combinations and most likely you will not have the time to try all of them.

Steps to Pick a Master Lock

Having said that, there is a method that can be used which will only require the use of a strong paper clip and a pen. These two items will serve as the makeshift key which will be used to pick the Master Lock.

Before anything else, straighten out the paper clip and bend the tip down so that it is positioned at an angle that is just a little less than 45 degrees.

Use the pen to serve as the tension wrench. Break off the metal clip from the cap of the pen and then bend the tip slightly.

Make sure that the lock is turned towards you in such a manner that the large end of the key insert is at the top.

As the lock is cradled in your left hand (if you are right-handed; vice versa if not), insert the bent end of the tension wrench into the large end of the key insert and lift it slightly with the use of your left thumb.

The next step involves inserting the bent end of the paper just under the tension wrench as far it can reach.

A slight amount of pressure should be exerted on the tension wrench while wiggling the paper clip up and down as it is inside the Master Lock. It may also be helpful to simultaneously twist the paper clip as you are wiggling it. Do this until you hear a click or a gear shift.

This sound will signal that you have successfully picked the lock

It is best to maintain an atmosphere with the lowest noise levels as possible. One useful tip to keep in mind when learning how to pick a Master Lock is to pick up a few inexpensive locks which you can use for practice. Obviously, the more learned you become at the skill, the easier and the quicker it will be for you to pick Master Locks in the future. Soon you will be a master yourself at showing others how to pick a Master Lock.

It is not just an amusing tactic that occurs in the big screen; it is a skill that can be picked up with a sufficient amount of time and practice. Before anything else, note that learning how to pick a lock with a credit card will not work all the time. Only certain types of locks can be picked open using this technique. Learning how to pick a lock with a credit card is a skill that is worth having as you never know when it might come in handy. After all, who among us has never been locked out of our own home due to sheer carelessness or forgetfulness?

Practice How to Pick a Lock with A Credit Card

When learning how to pick a lock with a credit card, it is best to choose a credit card that is quite large and very flexible. It is also possible to use other types of cards like a discount shopper card, library cards, ID cards, discount cards, or any other card that is laminated. It may be a good idea to use something that is disposable such as an expired credit card just in case it breaks or scratches. Another option is to cut out a piece of plastic of a plastic bottle. This will give you some extra flexibility, which is great when you are first learning how to pick a lock with a credit card or piece of plastic.

Slide the credit card into the area directly in between the door and the door frame right across from the door handle and lock.

Push the card in as far as possible at an angle that is perpendicular to the door.

Angle the card to allow it to go further into the door jam. Continue to push it in until you feel the card slide in further.

Lastly, bend the card the opposite way until the lock is forced to go back.

Then open the door as quickly as possible.

It is probably a good idea to lean against the door during this final step just to help it pop open.

Other Ways to Pick a Lock with a Credit Card

Another technique you can try while pushing the card between the door and the door frame is to pull and push at the doorknob while simultaneously applying pressure on the card. The lock will pry open eventually but this technique consumes more time and may possibly cause damage to the credit card.

As mentioned earlier, note that this lock picking method is not a universal one. For instance, this technique will not work with deadbolt locks as these require drilling the lock or kicking down the door.

Keep in mind as well that there is a chance for the credit card to be damaged when using it for this purpose and it is therefore advisable to use an expired one! This method of learning how to pick a lock with a credit card is one of the easier lock picking techniques there is and with sufficient time and practice, you should be able to do it seamlessly in no time.
